History repeats when good people fail to act
If religion wasn’t fiction, hell would be a place without learning, for eternity.
A willful lack of curiosity is the trait of our enemies. We are the majority — by far — who follow the better aspects of every religion regardless of belief. As Ben and Jerry have famously said, defeat your enemy by making them a friend. But reason and truth can’t penetrate a fervently believing mind. The litany of fantastic conspiracies, no matter how ridiculous, explain away every and all facts. “Bill Gates put trackers in vaccines.” We can easily guess what they think of monkey pox because we have already seen this movie during the AIDS epidemic.
Because we are better, we give them a pass. We don’t take them seriously no matter how many times someone in their ranks uses their stockpile of weapons against unsuspecting victims who are just trying to shop, socialize, and teach children.
Us and them. We have some things in common. A chronic inability to learn.
